Are there any health and safety issues I should know about before traveling to Thailand?

There is a couple of vaccination injections required before you travel. These can vary according to your destination choice. Your General Practitioner should advise you of these. Obviously, the change in diet may have some effect on you but generally, the food is clean and delicious. Once in Thailand, it is important that you only drink bottled water and don’t forget your sunscreen because it does get hot. Apart from that, there are not any extra precautions you need to take.

As far as safety is concerned, you are visiting a politically stable country with a relatively low crime rate. But as with any country, you will always get your pick pockets and thieves. To be on the safe side, take copies of all your travel documents before you travel and leave them with a friend or relative. Also, leave behind your expensive jewelry and don’t carry all your money together in the same place.

What are Thai people like?

Thai people are very much happy go lucky characters. If you ask anyone who has been to Thailand what it was that they liked most about the country, the answer is usually the people. They take great pleasure in any foreigner who displays an interest in Thai culture, heritage and their way of life. The Thai people who you will meet along your journey will grab the opportunity to practice their English with you. You will notice quickly that the Thais have a great sense of humor and have infectious laughs.

Oh, and their whole attitude to life can be summed up in one phrase, which you will hear a lot - “Mai Pen Rai”. This means “Never Mind”. Thais are the greatest of pacifists.
